An Incredible Staff of Music Educators
Laura has been on the La Sierra Board of Directors and served as treasurer for 28 years. She is currently an elementary educator at Thomas Elementary in Fresno Unified and directs the handbell choir at. Hope Lutheran Church. Laura plays piano, cello, and percussion, and is the proud mother of her two sons, Greg and Tim.
After 40 years as Music Director at Cherry Avenue Middle School in Tulare, Susan is currently the Visual and Performing Arts Advisor for Tulare City School District. She has been involved in Encore Theatre Company since it’s inception 38 years ago as a founding board member, President, as well as many more roles. Susan is the founder and director of the Mid Valley Jazz Festival, which hosts close to 40 bands a year in a 2 day non-competitive jazz festival that features top jazz educators from around the state. Susan was recognized as Region VII California League of Middle Schools Teacher of the Year in 2014. She has served many roles at La Sierra Creative Arts Camp over the years, including board member, camp director, and concert band director. Susan Burley loves music, loves kids, and has an ongoing passion to share music to all!
Theresia has been a part of the La Sierra faculty for 18 years. She is currently a junior high choral director at Kastner Intermediate School and has a studio of private flute students. Theresia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from CSU, Stanislaus and a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from CSU, Fresno. She has been principal chair in the Fresno State Wind Ensemble under Larry Sutherland and played in the distinguished President's Quintet. She plays the flute and piccolo professionally and has studied with Caryl Mae Scott, Teresa Beaman, Pam Ellzey, and Tracy Harris. She has taught music at all grade levels and has enjoyed spending the last 12 years teaching choir in Clovis Unified.
Athena is a Tulare native with degrees from Fresno Pacific and Fresno State Universities, and she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in holistic teaching from CSU San Bernardino. She has been an educator for 9 years and is currently working for the Tulare City School District as an instrumental music teacher. Athena serves as a board member with the Tulare County Symphony. She has attended La Sierra since she was in 7th grade, and now teaches music theory and ensembles as well as being on the board of directors.
