Laura has been on the La Sierra Board of Directors and served as treasurer for 29 years. She is currently an elementary educator at Thomas Elementary in Fresno Unified and directs the handbell choir at Hope Lutheran Church. Laura plays piano, cello, and percussion, and is the proud mother of her two sons, Greg and Tim.
After 40 years as Music Director at Cherry Avenue Middle School in Tulare, Susan is currently the Visual and Performing Arts Advisor for Tulare City School District. She has been involved in Encore Theatre Company since it’s inception 39 years ago as a founding board member, President, as well as many more roles. Susan is the founder and director of the Mid Valley Jazz Festival, which hosts close to 40 bands a year in a 2 day non-competitive jazz festival that features top jazz educators from around the state. Susan was recognized as Region VII California League of Middle Schools Teacher of the Year in 2014. She has served many roles at La Sierra Creative Arts Camp over the years, including board member, camp director, and concert band director. Susan Burley loves music, loves kids, and has an ongoing passion to share music to all!
Theresia has been a part of the La Sierra faculty for 19 years. She is currently a junior high choral director at Kastner Intermediate School and has a studio of private flute students. Theresia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from CSU, Stanislaus and a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from CSU, Fresno. She has been principal chair in the Fresno State Wind Ensemble under Larry Sutherland and played in the distinguished President's Quintet. She plays the flute and piccolo professionally and has studied with Caryl Mae Scott, Teresa Beaman, Pam Ellzey, and Tracy Harris. She has taught music at all grade levels and has enjoyed spending the last 13 years teaching choir in Clovis Unified.
Tim Shaghoian is a musician, composer, and educator based in Fresno, CA. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Music Performance from California State University, Fresno. In conjunction with his studies at the university, he holds a teaching associate position in the jazz studies program where he instructs a class in small ensemble jazz performance. Tim holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Performance on the saxophone from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied with renowned modern jazz saxophonist Peter Epstein. He is the piano accompanist and co-director of the Kastner Intermediate School jazz choir and he is on the Milestones Youth Jazz Workshop faculty where he teaches small ensemble jazz, improvisation, and saxophone. Tim is on the board of directors for La Sierra Creative Arts Camp, where he teaches woodwinds and leads master classes and jazz workshops. In 2016 he was a featured artist at the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival. Tim released his first album as a co-leader in 2018 with the group TTRC. The album, Sunset EP, features original compositions and freely improvised music for three saxophones recorded at famed Los Angeles recording studio Sunset Sound. www.timshaghoianmusic.com
