Laura has been on the La Sierra Board of Directors and served as treasurer for 29 years. She is currently an elementary educator at Thomas Elementary in Fresno Unified and directs the handbell choir at Hope Lutheran Church. Laura plays piano, cello, and percussion, and is the proud mother of her two sons, Greg and Tim.
After 40 years as Music Director at Cherry Avenue Middle School in Tulare, Susan is currently the Visual and Performing Arts Advisor for Tulare City School District. She has been involved in Encore Theatre Company since it’s inception 39 years ago as a founding board member, President, as well as many more roles. Susan is the founder and director of the Mid Valley Jazz Festival, which hosts close to 40 bands a year in a 2 day non-competitive jazz festival that features top jazz educators from around the state. Susan was recognized as Region VII California League of Middle Schools Teacher of the Year in 2014. She has served many roles at La Sierra Creative Arts Camp over the years, including board member, camp director, and concert band director. Susan Burley loves music, loves kids, and has an ongoing passion to share music to all!
Theresia has been a part of the La Sierra faculty for 19 years. She is currently a junior high choral director at Kastner Intermediate School and has a studio of private flute students. Theresia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from CSU, Stanislaus and a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from CSU, Fresno. She has been principal chair in the Fresno State Wind Ensemble under Larry Sutherland and played in the distinguished President's Quintet. She plays the flute and piccolo professionally and has studied with Caryl Mae Scott, Teresa Beaman, Pam Ellzey, and Tracy Harris. She has taught music at all grade levels and has enjoyed spending the last 13 years teaching choir in Clovis Unified.
Athena is a Tulare native with degrees from Fresno Pacific and Fresno State Universities, and she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in holistic teaching from CSU San Bernardino. She has been an educator for 10 years and is currently working for the Tulare City School District as an instrumental music teacher. Athena serves as a board member with the Tulare County Symphony. She has attended La Sierra since she was in 7th grade, and now teaches music theory and ensembles as well as being on the board of directors.
Tim Shaghoian is a musician, composer, and educator based in Clovis, CA. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Performance on the saxophone from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied with Peter Epstein. Tim manages a private teaching studio with over a dozen students and is the piano accompanist for the Kastner Intermediate School choirs. He is on the board of directors for La Sierra Creative Arts Camp, where he teaches woodwinds, master classes and jazz workshops. Tim has performed at venues and festivals across the west coast, including the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2016 he was a featured artist at the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival. Tim has had the pleasure of performing with musicians such as Terry Riley, Gilad Hekselman, Mark Ferber, James Winn, and Peter Epstein. www.timshaghoianmusic.com
